Two students from the L20 Hotel School are celebrating after being offered work in Michelin starred chef Nigel Haworth’s latest addition to his Ribble Valley Inns Group.

Keiran Ryder and Sean Sorrell are both studying on Hospitality and Catering courses at the L20 Hotel School which is part of Hugh Baird College in Bootle. Having volunteered to support Nigel with preparations for the opening of his new gastro pub, The Nags Head in Cheshire, the pair impressed the renowned chef so much that he offered them both Commis Chef positions.

The Nags Head is part of the Ribble Valley Inns Group. Situated in the picturesque hamlet of Haughton, near Tarporley, it has undergone an extensive refurbishment to transform it into one of the county’s finest regional food pubs with menus created by Michelin Star chef Nigel Haworth.

Seventeen year old Sean, from Bootle, joined Hugh Baird College as a School Link student when he was fourteen and has now just completed the Level 1 Diploma in Professional Cookery and the NVQ Certificate in Professional Food and Beverage Service. Whilst Keiran, who is eighteen and from Seaforth, has just finished the same qualifications at Level 2.

Sean said: “When I started at Hugh Baird College, I knew I wanted to work as a chef one day and being a part of the L20 Hotel School has opened up opportunities that I don’t think I’d have had elsewhere. Even after only a few days working at The Nags Head, I’m loving it and I’ve gained loads more experience already.”

Hospitality and Catering Assessor for the L20 Hotel School, Alan Harris, co-ordinated the young chefs’ work experience at The Nags Head and said: “I’m very proud of Sean and Keiran. Not only are they showing great promise as chefs, but they’re also demonstrating their commitment and drive to succeed in the industry. This is a fantastic chance for them to gain invaluable experience working in a prestigious establishment with leading chefs and they have grasped the opportunity with both hands. They’re a credit to Hugh Baird College and testament to the calibre of student that the L20 Hotel School is attracting.”Hugh Baird College is inviting the community into its commercial hubs throughout summer with an action packed schedule of events. International businesses conferences, World Cup football celebrations, World War One Centenary commemorations and celebrity chef culinary master classes are amongst the activities being billed.
