Hugh Baird College is inviting the community into its commercial hubs throughout summer with an action packed schedule of events. International businesses conferences, World Cup football celebrations, World War One Centenary commemorations and celebrity chef culinary master classes are amongst the activities being billed.
The college, which is counts the nationally renowned L20 Hotel School restaurant and café amongst its main commercial attractions, will be open for business throughout the summer.
Hugh Baird College commercial facilities general manager Rob Graham said the summer provided a terrific opportunity for members of the community to visit the site and sample the facilities.
“We are gearing up for a really exciting and busy period, following months of preparation.” said Mr Graham. “The site will be a hive of activity over the summer and we are keen to promote our first class facilities for dining, relaxing, working and celebrating. Our restaurants, cafes, library and conference areas are all open to community to drop in or hire for functions.
“We will have a string of exclusive visits from celebrity TV chefs including Nigel Haworth and Kenny Atkinson. They will be running kitchen sessions and workshops across our L20 Hotel restaurant and café which are open throughout the summer from breakfast through to dinner serving seasonal, local produce.
“A series of World Cup themed celebrations are also being planned with Brazilian style food being served and matches screened. We are looking to develop this by serving food and drink relating to the countries which are playing.
“The college is also closely involved with the upcoming International Festival of Business (IFB2014) and will host a number of events in partnership with WISTA (Women in the Maritime Industries), the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and Liverpool Chamber of Commerce. These will take place within our extensive conferencing facilities and meeting rooms, which cater for two to 200 people, in the brand new multi-million pound L20 Building.
“Members from across the region’s booming maritime sector will also be visiting the site in July for the trade body Mersey Maritime’s annual chairman’s dinner.”
Further plans in the pipeline will see the college uniting with the local community for a series of summer events to commemorate the First World War Centenary which began this year.
Another major event will see the college hosting a 350th anniversary celebration for the Royal Marines Merseyside Reserve.
The college is set to receive a further boost in September when a further series of commercial hubs open in the main Balliol Road building.
“The main campus building has been undergoing a multi-million pound renovation for around the past year,” he said. “The ground floor has been extensively redeveloped to create a dynamic, vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The next schedule of works is set to see a series of commercial outlets including a florist, hair salon, nail salon and barbers opening on site for the start of the new academic year.
“This commercial hub breaks down the barrier and draws the neighbouring community on site. These businesses help to create an entrepreneurial environment and will also play a key role in developing our in house apprenticeship, work experience and work-based learning initiatives.”
The L20 Restaurant in open for lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 11.45am to 5pm. It is open for dinner from Wednesday to Friday from 6pm to 12pm. The L20 Café is open for breakfast and lunch from Monday to Friday from 8am to 3pm.
