Over the next two weeks a group of students and staff from Hugh Baird College’s L20 Hotel School will be rubbing shoulders with some of the world’s most talented, creative and celebrated chefs as they lend a hand at OBSESSION 2015 at Northcote.
OBSESSION is a fifteen day annual food and wine festival held at Northcote, home of Michelin starred chef Nigel Haworth. The gastronomic celebration, which is Nigel’s brainchild and is now in its 15th year, promises to be bigger and better than ever before as Northcote celebrates its 30 year anniversary.
Chef’s attending the food extravaganza include Nigel himself, Great British Menu chefs Kenny Atkinson, Shaun Rankin and Glynn Purnell, Ken Hom, Gordon Ramsay’s protégée Angela Hartnett and many more from every corner of the globe.
Working alongside Michelin starred chef and chefs regularly seen on TV, is nothing new to the students and staff of the L20 Hotel School. Over the past 18 months, thanks to outstanding links with industry and the partnership between the College and Nigel Haworth, the students have already gained valuable kitchen time with the likes of Liverpool’s own Adam Franklin, Simon Rimmer and Dave Critchley and from further afield; Kenny Atkinson, Mary Ellen McTague, Lisa Allen, Matt Gillan, Chris Holland and Paul Foster.
Mike Mounfield, Assistant Principal at Hugh Baird College and L20 Hotel School founder said:
“I would like to thank Nigel and his team for his continued support of our vision here at the L20 Hotel School. Our mission is to shape the future of the hospitality industry and aid the growth of the Liverpool City Region’s buoyant visitor economy. By delivering staff to the industry with the right attitude and CVs packed full of experiences, I am confident that, along with other likeminded people, we will achieve our aim.”
Staff from the L20 Hotel School will also put in shifts at OBSESSION as part of their own career and skill development. L20 Hotel School Chef Lecturer Mark said:
“At the centre of our ethos is making sure we are on the pulse of the hospitality industry and our curriculum mirrors the needs of its employers. What better way to do this than to work next to some of the best in the business.”
Nigel Haworth added:
“OBSESSION is full on and it will really open the eyes of the students to the demands of producing food at a Michelin star level. I am pleased with the way the L20 Hotel School partnership with Northcote is developing and I have worked with the students on a number of occasions. There are some bright prospects in the group and I know they will seize this opportunity and really push themselves.”
